Sneaky

Oh dear me, I am being a bit naughty.

Having been unable to stay on the internet for long since moving in here, first because the provided wireless internet signal is weak at this height, and secondly because for the past few days the network has not even accepted my entry, I got fed up.

Landlord's son has promised to boost my connectivity with a plug in thing soon. Until then, I am very naughtily using my phone, plugged in to my laptop as a wireless modem using the mobile network. Sort of expensive, but not nearly as much as pay as you go dialup, and much faster. Anyway, you may remember the many other bills I'm no longer paying. So it evens out. Justified?

I got bored of not visiting all my fave blogs!

Many thanks to those of you who kept visiting even though you weren't seeing my face round yours.

**********

Rain, rain, go away and come again another day.

It's been raining for the past 2 weeks or more, and there's still more on the horizon.

This weekend I planned to put my wellies on and build my own ark. But it's toooooooooooooooooooo windyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I stuck my head out of my skylight last night and it took my breath away!

Don't be surprised if Great Britain separates from its moorings and docks in a foreign port pretty soon. That is, unless it doesn't sink first from all the rain which has nowhere to go.

**********

And another thing, you know those ridiculous "millions of dollars up for grabs because they can't find the next of kin/can't transfer foreign funds"-type spam emails?

I got the stupidest one today. Yahoo insisted that I had a new email, so I scrolled and scrolled and could not find it! You see, sometimes one of my friends' emails arrives a day late or so.

I found that I could sort by unread and guess where this email was!

At the very beginning of my account, dated 9/18/99, right after my "Welcome to Yahoo! " message from 8/19/04.

Now that, I call sneaky. What do they ever accomplish by sending this crap?

Alas, I get the Spam trick a lot on my work e-mail address, because they know you then can't not notice it as you have to hunt for it. Luckily I download work e-mail into Thunderbird so I can view all new messages and delete them in one go instead of searching.

Good to see you online again.

You'd be surprised. Apparently a lot of people still fall for those things. Think about it; if you send out a million spam messages, and one idiot falls for it, you still come out several thousand dollars richer!

Actually, though, I've heard most spammers get paid by commission. They don't care if you read their messages or not. They just get their money if you receive it!

Oh, and it was good to see your smiley face in my comment thread again, m'lady! Welcome back!

Sheesh - you are too hi-tech! Glad you're back on if only for a little while. I like your windy rainy predictions for your little island. We only get those fierce Santa Ana winds after I sweep the back patio (the repository of leaves for our neighborhood).

I hate those e-mails! I get about 10-15 of them a day and they won't go away. You're right, what do they accomplish from this? Glad to see you back. :)

LB - oooh they make me mad.
If I do wash up on your shore, you can have all the pork pies. You like those???

***

Pete - It's going to go to the end of the queue because I sort by date. Because I mean, how often do you get an email from the 90s?

***

Minstrel - I know...even I fell for a scam and lost a couple thousand back in December - albeit not online but over that flat that the "owner" did not really own!

It's good to be back!

***

Nikki - hmph well alright then! :P
I used to call myself a closet geek, you know.

What's the Santa Ana wind like? Have you heard of the Chinook in Montana/Alberta/Saskatchewan? It melts snow right away.

Beenzzz - Viagra, Rolex, impressing your girlfriend, etc? Ugh! The newest ones are Hoodia weight loss, love matches, gala bingo. Spam seems to have increased this year. Only a couple of months ago I'd get 10 max daily and now it's about 30, but the yahoo spam filter is excellent.

If England breaks loose and washes away make sure it floats to the tropics, it's lovely in the Caribbean. Ahhh, maybe Martinique or Guadeloupe or Grenada or...

Hi,Olivia-good to see that your internet problems might be on the way to getting solved when the landlord's son boosts connectivity. Is the wireless modem via the mobile network, really cheaper than dialup? It's the other way round in India,I remember.

LOL at the thoughts regarding an overdose of rain in GB separating it from it's moorings.I guess global warming is showing it's true colours,finally-in fact, can you believe that Dubai had floods for a day?Yes we did.

Re. those emails of you being the inheritor of a few millions-wouldn't it be great if true?Of course, even I just delete them instantly! I guess tricksters can stoop to anything to make a fast buck.
