Late Poetry Day entry

I was unable to participate in Thursday's abundance of poetry, so Panda said it would be extended to the weekend for me. :)

I dusted off all my poetry collections and looked at all the poems I liked in school. I find them very sentimental and touching, but a bit too morbid for my current situation. Then I took another look at e. e. cummings, whom I could not understand when I was young -- neither his words nor his odd unpunctuated rhythms. But I am older and wiser now, so here is one of his:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)

i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

**********

And one of mine from 1998, when I was ending a few years of unrequited love:

You shine like a star,
.....but distance dims the light.
You offer me words,
.....but I cannot see your face.
I listen to your voice,
.....but I cannot hear your heart.
I reach for your hand,
.....but I find it withdrawn.

So I watch
and I wait
and I wish.....

That I might bask in the glow of your love,
gaze into the depths of your eyes,
feel the warmth of your heart,
and place my hand in yours.

WOw, I was literally just there, but I couldn't find anywhere to comment.

I like your alphabet, think it is pretty, and your yin yang character thingy is interesting too.

I love your poem Liv, it's so bittersweet. I feel a little like you must have felt when you wrote it. I especially love the first 2 lines.. *sighs*
I went on a shopping spree today and spent 3days worth of pay, but yay! Hope you're having a good weekend! xx

Pandy - OMIGOSH!
That is rather naughty of you, I MUST say. Thankfully you live at home and don't have huge expenses!

Tooners - awww. Glad you like my poem. I don't write as much as i used to, except when i have an overflow of feelings. The last time was last year, after I was disappointed in love.

Beautiful...too bad, somebody didn't deserve those words. His loss, I guess :)

I want to be like him, he is amazing...I think I will be going back between the groups untill my footwork gets better.

Ah....E.E. Cummings! That man could write poems like no other. He was especially good at being just plain bizarre. Take, for example, his poem "The Way to Hump a Cow", which, believe it or not, was included in my 9th grade English textbook.

I really like your poem, Olivia. As has been said before, it really takes you into the mood...that inner ache of unrequited love. Well done!

My word verification (struggling against both a cold and antihistamines):
My heart goes out to you, my online friend;
Your verses, full of aches that I know well.
X-treme the heart can be right till the end,
Just when your lacy heaven turns to hell.
Many the times that I've been there.
Love's bittersweetness, good to share!

(Sorry about that X-line...)

Pete - hey thanks :) Long time no see, eh?

Phatichar - welcome, and thank you. A few more losses since then, too.

Jia Li aka Speed Demon - does this mean you are training to compete???

Minstrel - hahaha! Just reading that title in the comment while eating a grape was nearly disastrous - I held off on the rest to read the poem. It is sooo funny! Thanks for sharing. Makes me want to read lots more of his work.

And thank you so much for enjoying my poem. I will have to share some more with you all in future. I just remembered, I wrote a much stronger one last year.

Despite your antihistamines and the cold, you excel as usual at the code poems. I wouldn't dare hold the X-line against you!
